Synopsis: GMR Airports Limited reported monthly traffic of approximately 10 million passengers in April 2026, a 5% year-on-year decline attributed to Middle East geopolitical tensions and broader aviation disruptions. Despite the monthly dip, the company crossed its highest-ever annual passenger mark of 121.6 million in FY2025-26.

GMR Airports Limited, India’s largest private airport operator, released its Monthly Traffic Data for April 2026 in a regulatory filing to the BSE and NSE on May 15, 2026. The filing, submitted under SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, disclosed passenger and aircraft movement figures across its portfolio of airports for both April 2026 and the full financial year FY2025-26.

For April 2026, GMR’s combined portfolio (excluding the divested Cebu airport) handled 9,831,163 passengers, a decline of 5.0% year-on-year. Domestic traffic came in at 7.6 million passengers, down 3.7% YoY, while international traffic stood at 2.3 million, declining 8.9% YoY. The company, however, offered important context: the total April 2026 traffic decline was numerically equivalent to just approximately 1.5 days of normal passenger volumes handled across GMR airports highlighting the resilience of underlying demand. Monthly traffic has sustainably remained at around the 10 million mark since October 2025.

The primary reasons cited for the traffic decline were ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East, which has impacted Indian aviation since February 28, 2026, along with supply-side fleet constraints at its Medan (Indonesia) airport due to maintenance-related groundings affecting the broader Indonesian aviation market.

At the flagship Delhi Airport (DEL), April 2026 traffic stood at 6,652,190 passengers, a marginal decline of 0.3% YoY. Domestic passengers numbered 4.9 million (up 1.8% YoY), while international passengers stood at 1.7 million (down 5.9% YoY). For the full year FY2026, Delhi handled 78.7 million passengers. On a standout operational note, Delhi Airport achieved its highest-ever Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs) in FY26 at 4.6 lakh, up 1.0% YoY, with domestic ATMs touching record levels and international ATMs at the highest since FY20.

Delhi also crossed the 1 Million Metric Tonne cargo mark for the third consecutive time, handling approximately 1.15 MMT in FY26 a 3.5% YoY increase reinforcing its position as India’s largest cargo-handling airport.

Hyderabad Airport (HYD) reported 2,250,121 passengers in April 2026, a sharper decline of 15.1% YoY, driven by both domestic and international headwinds. However, on a full-year basis, Hyderabad delivered its best-ever performance: 30.5 million passengers in FY26, up 3.4% YoY the highest-ever annual tally for the airport, with domestic pax at 25 mn (up 2.4%) and international at 5.5 mn (up 8.2%), both record figures. ATMs also crossed highest-ever levels in FY26 at 2.1 lakh, growing 3.1% YoY.

Mopa (Goa) Airport (GOX) continued its strong growth trajectory, posting 392,652 passengers in April 2026, up 5.3% YoY, and an FY26 total of 5.4 million, its highest-ever annual figure, up 15.2% YoY. ATMs in FY26 hit 37,510, rising 17.5% YoY.

Delhi Airport climbed to 28th in the Skytrax World’s Top 100 Airports 2026 ranking, making it the only Indian airport in the global top 30, up from 32nd in 2025. It is also ranked the 10th busiest airport globally by seats and the busiest in India for domestic departing seats (OAG, May 2026). Hyderabad similarly moved up to 43rd globally from 56th last year, while Goa’s Mopa airport improved to 64th from 80th.

On connectivity, Delhi now links to 161 destinations globally (86 domestic, 75 international) at an all-time high. New routes added include Air China’s Delhi–Beijing service (5x weekly) and Uzbekistan Airways’ Delhi Namangan connection (weekly). On the infrastructure front, Bhogapuram Airport in Andhra Pradesh is nearing completion at 99.2% overall progress as of April 30, 2026, with an expected commissioning by June 30, 2026.

Shares of GMR Airports Limited were trading at Rs. 94.88 on May 18, 2026, down 1.77% from the previous close of Rs. 96.59. The stock opened at Rs. 95.99 and moved between an intraday high of Rs. 96.18 and a low of Rs. 92.30 during the session. The airport infrastructure company currently has a market capitalization of about Rs. 1,00,200 crore and is a constituent of the NIFTY MIDCAP 50 index.
