Private banks are raising charges on credit card transactions, banking majors HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have both revised terms for credit card transactions effective from July 1 2025, bank notification sent to customers shows.
HDFC Bank has revised the terms for credit card transactions, introducing fresh charges on gaming, wallet loading, and utility charges effective from July 1 2025. All online skill-based gaming transactions above Rs 10,000 per month on platforms like Dream11, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, or MPL, a 1% charge will apply.
The charge will be applicable on the entire online skill-based gaming spends for the month and will be capped at ₹4,999 per month, and no reward points will be earned on online skill-based gaming transactions.
Third-party wallets with more than Rs 10,000 per month on platforms like (but not limited to) PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge, or Ola Money using your credit card, will be charged at 1%. The charge will be applicable on the entire wallet loading spend for the month and will be capped at Rs4,999 per month.
Utility transactions of more than Rs 50,000 per month on Utility, a 1% charge will be levied. The charge will be applicable on the entire Utility spends for the month and will be capped at Rs 4,999 per month. Insurance transactions won’t be considered as utility transactions hence no charge will be applicable, the bank clarifies.
The maximum charge per transaction for Rent, Fuel and Education categories will now be Rs 4,999. The existing charge of 1% will continue to be applicable on all rent transactions, only on Fuel Transactions more than Rs 15,000 per transaction. The education transactions done via third-party app payments made through college/school websites or their POS machines, will not be charged.
ICICI Bank on similar lines have revised charges for issue of DD (Demand Draft), PO (Pay Order), ATM interchange and transactions, cash transactions, and debit card fees. For deposit of cash, cheque and transfer of DD and PO, the charges have been revised to Rs 2 per 1000, subject to a minimum of Rs 50 and maximum of Rs. 15,000. Previously the general charges were Rs50 up to Rs10000, and Rs5 per 1000 for above Rs 10000.
For the ATM Interchange transactions the rates have been revised to Rs 23 per financial transaction and Rs 8.5 per non-financial transaction, post 3 transactions, from earlier charge of Rs 21 per financial transaction and Rs 8.5 per non financial transaction, post 3 transactions.
The charges for transaction at ICICI Bank ATMs has also been raised from Rs 21 per financial transaction, post 5 transactions to Rs 23 per financial transaction, post 5 transactions for a regular savings account.
Further, debit card annual fees has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 300, the replacement card fees has been raised from Rs 200 per card to Rs 300 per card.
