“Over the next 24 to 48 hours, Rajasthan is likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. Light to moderate showers are also expected, with temperatures likely to drop by 5 to 8 degrees,” IMD official Radheshyam Sharma said.

“No heatwave is predicted in the coming days. From June 21 onwards, the monsoon is expected to set in with increased rainfall activity and a high probability of intense thunderstorms,” he added.

Rainfall is expected to increase in Himachal Pradesh after the 20th of June, with heavy rain likely at many places on the 21st and 22nd. Regarding the monsoon, IMD Scientist Katiyar added that it is expected to advance and cover parts of Central and East India in the coming days.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Pune.

“It has been raining continuously in Mumbai since last night. At this time also, light rain is falling in most parts of the city. Rain will continue intermittently for the next few hours,” it said.

According to the department, Mumbai is surrounded by ‘rain band’ from all sides. So far, waterlogging is not visible anywhere, it said. The administration has appealed to the citizens to remain alert.
