The Indian benchmark equity indices opened up after four consecutive sessions of a downward trend. Today’s market is pulled up by share prices of Jio Financial Services, Reliance Industries, and Asian Paints. The NSE Nifty 50 opened 69.30 points or 0.28% up at 24,890.40, while the BSE Sensex opened 256.57 points, or 0.32% up at 81,594.52.

Global Markets

  • US and Chinese officials wrapped up trade talks in Stockholm and agreed to extend the tariff truce, though specifics weren’t shared. Chinese negotiator Li Chenggang called the talks open and detailed. Earlier discussions were held in Geneva and London.
  • The S&P 500 Index closed down 18.91 points, or 0.30%, at 6,370.86.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 204.57 points, or 0.46%, at 44,632.99.
  • The FTSE 100 closed up 54.88 points, or 0.60%, at 9,136.32.
  • DAX closed up 247.01 points, or 1.03%, at 24,217.37.

Asian Indexes

Asian markets remained uncertain as investors waited for the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy decision. A slight improvement in U.S.-China trade talks failed to lift market mood.

  • Gold is up 0.01% and now trading at Rs. 9,951 per gram.
  • Silver is up 0.04% and now trading at Rs. 1,13,800 per kg.
  • Copper is down 0.1% and now trading at Rs. 892.40 per kg.

  • Asian Paints: Asian Paints approved the merger of its subsidiary, Asian Paints (Polymers), to drive synergy in operations.
  • Reliance Industries: The company signed a joint operating deal with ONGC and BP Exploration for an oil and gas exploration block.
  • Avenue Supermarts: DMart opened a new store in Pathankot, Punjab, increasing its total store count to 426.
  • L&T Finance: L&T Finance raised ₹250 crore through private placement of Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs).
