Bank Nifty started the session at 55,215.65, declining 195.50 points or 0.35% from the last close of 55,411.15. Sensex opened at 80,262.98, falling 281.01 points or 0.35% from the previous close of 80,543.99. Gift Nifty is currently trading at 24,548, indicating a mildly negative to flat sentiment.

Global events/updates

  • The White House announced that President Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on Indian imports, effective September 27, 2025, due to India’s dealings in Russian oil. The move comes amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which the U.S. considers a national emergency. 
  • Sanctions will also apply to indirect Russian oil trade channels, and similar actions may be taken against other countries engaged in Russian oil trade. Meanwhile, U.S.-Russia talks reportedly went well, with Russia expressing interest in continuing engagement with the U.S.
  • President Trump has announced a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors and chips, with exemptions only for companies manufacturing or planning to manufacture in the U.S.
  • Apple is expected to benefit due to its $600 billion investment pledge in U.S. operations and a new domestic manufacturing plan.
  • Trump also stated efforts are ongoing to end the Ukraine-Russia war, and Witkoff recently held a productive meeting with Putin.

Stocks to watch

  • Paras Defence and Space Technologies has entered into a teaming agreement with Germany-based High Performance Space Structure Systems GmbH. This collaboration aims to pursue Defence and Space-related projects within the Indian region.
  • Jash Engineering provided an update on its order book, which stood at Rs. 875 crore as of August 1. During July 2025, the company added fresh orders worth Rs. 78 crore.
  • Tata Steel announced that one of its subsidiaries has acquired a 40% equity stake inTSN Wires, effectively making it an indirect wholly-owned foreign subsidiary.
  • IRB Infrastructure shared a project-wise toll collection update for July 2025. The company reported a 10% year-on-year increase in gross toll revenue for the month.
  • MOIL released its monthly performance update for July, reporting manganese ore production of 1.45 lakh tonnes, an 11.4% increase compared to the same period last year. However, total sales during April–July 2025 stood at 4.53 lakh tonnes, slightly lower than 5.02 lakh tonnes recorded in the same period of 2024.
  • Kirloskar Oil Engines announced that its board has approved an investment of Rs. 18 crore into its U.S.-based subsidiary, Kirloskar Americas, to support its expansion efforts in the American market.
  • Bharat Forge has signed a business transfer agreement with KSSL to transfer the assets and related obligations of its defence business on an itemised sale basis, for a total consideration of Rs. 453 crore.
  • Puravankara disclosed that its subsidiary has received a letter of intent worth Rs. 83.51 crore from Krishil WhiteAlpha for the civil construction works of a commercial project named “Luxon”.
  • Enviro Infra Engineers has secured cumulative orders worth Rs. 1,178.3 crore from various government bodies for projects related to water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, and common effluent treatment plants.
  • Medplus Health Services reported that its subsidiary, Optival Health Solutions, has received suspension orders for drug licenses across eight of its retail outlets.
  • Jindal Worldwide has divested a 51% stake in its wholly owned subsidiary, Goodcore Spintex, for Rs. 12.75 crore, reducing its shareholding in the unit from 100% to 49%.
  • Waaree Energies, the promoter of Indosolar, is offering 12.5 lakh equity shares equivalent to a 3% stake via an offer for sale to comply with minimum public shareholding norms.
  • Tinna Rubber and Infrastructure has approved a total investment of Rs. 5 crore factoring in prior investments into Mbodia Investments, its joint venture in South Africa.
  • Shriram Finance has announced a buyback offer for its non-convertible debentures worth up to Rs. 900 crore, maturing on December 19, 2025. The offer will be open from August 28 to September 1, 2025, and will be available to eligible debenture holders on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Allcargo Logistics stated that its subsidiary Ecuhold N.V. has acquired an additional 30% stake in Ecu-Line Saudi Arabia for SAR 10 million, thereby raising its total ownership to 100%.
