Indonesia blocked access to Polymarket after the platform allowed bets on the premature termination of President Prabowo Subianto’s term, local media reported on Monday.

Indonesia Tightens Online Gambling Rules

The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs classified Polymarket as an online gambling platform, considered illegal in the Southeast Asian country, according to a report by The Jakarta Post.

Ministry official Alexander Sabar was quoted in the report saying the platform contains elements of monetary betting over “uncertain events” and therefore violates prevailing laws.

Authorities would also track social media accounts linked to the platform to further restrict its spread in the country, the report said.
