IndiGo on Sunday has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for 30 more A350-900 wide-body aircraft, taking the total count of such airplanes to 60.
The deal adds to IndiGo’s 2024 order of 30 such aircraft, deliveries of which are scheduled to begin from 2027. The airline also has purchase rights for an additional 70, of which 30 are now being converted to firm orders.
“Delivery of these 30 new A350 is expected 2035 onwards,” said IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers.
The country’s largest airline by market share is expanding its international network and is set to operate flights to 10 new international cities this fiscal. These include Amsterdam (Netherlands), Manchester (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Siem Reap (Cambodia), and four destinations in Central Asia.
The airline began laying groundwork for its long-haul operations in March this year, with the induction of six wide-body aircraft on temporary lease, deliveries of which will be completed by 2026.
Currently, IndiGo operates 400 aircraft, connecting 91 domestic and 40 international destinations. It inducted 58 aircraft in 2024 and welcomed over 118 million customers in FY25.
In June 2023, IndiGo placed the largest single aircraft order in aviation history, ordering 500 aircraft with Airbus. Delivery of this order, which comprises a mix of A320 family aircraft, will begin between 2030 and 2035.
“We will continue to add one aircraft a week to double by the end of the decade,” the CEO said. The airline expects to operate a fleet of 600 aircraft by 2030.
