India’s industrial output growth slowed to 1.2% in May, as against the revised growth of 2.6% in the preceding month of April, according to the data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Monday. It is the lowest nine months.

Manufacturing activity, which comprises the largest component of the index, expanded on an annual basis by 2.6%, compared to 5.1% in the same month last year.

Mining contracted by 0.1%, versus a 6.6% increase in the previous year.

Electricity production contracted to 5.8%, as against 13.7% in the preceding month.

  • Primary goods contracted 1.9% year-on-year in May versus 0.2% in the preceding month.

  • Capital goods grew 14.1% versus 14% in April.

  • Intermediate goods grew 3.5% versus 4.9% in the preceding month.

  • Infrastructure goods grew by 6.3% versus 4.7% last month.

  • Consumer durables contracted by 0.7% versus growth of 6.2% in the previous month.

  • Consumer non-durables output contracted by 2.4% versus a contraction of 2.7% in the previous month.
