Google is taking personalisation to the next level with its AI chatbot, Gemini. Now available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, the new feature lets users schedule the assistant to handle recurring tasks at specific times.

This means that users will be able to schedule Gemini to perform tasks such as daily calendar summaries or weekly blog post ideas. This ‘schedule action’ feature is aimed at making the assistant more proactive and personalised.

Users can also use this feature for other things, like generating a summary of an event after it concludes. Google expects that the feature will attract more users as the personalised AI assistant space heats up.

“Stay informed by getting updates on your favorite sports team, or schedule a one-off task like asking Gemini to give you a summary of an award show the day after it happens,” Google said on a feature’s launch on Friday.

To manage the tasks shared by the Gemini assistant, users can head to the settings. “You can manage them anytime within the scheduled actions page within settings,” Google said.

Besides AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, the feature will also be available for qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans, according to the tech giant.

ChatGPT has also worked on a similar capability, allowing users to schedule tasks for its AI chatbot to perform recurring tasks. Launching the feature, ChatGPT said, “Users can enable ChatGPT to run automated prompts and proactively reach out to them on a scheduled basis.”

Currently, the AI powerhouse has put a 10 active task limit on its chat model.

“If you reach this limit, ChatGPT will not be able to create a new task unless you pause or delete an existing active task or it completes per its scheduled time,” it said.

Other rivals are also working on similar functionality, aiming to make their AI assistants seamlessly integrated into users’ daily routines.
