Synopsis:- Defence stocks drew attention as procurement proposals worth ₹80,000 crore came up for consideration. With FY25 production at ₹1.5 lakh crore, exports rising 17%, and multiple DAC approvals already exceeding ₹2.3 lakh crore this year, momentum in defence indigenisation remains strong.
India is accelerating its defence production, with production reaching ₹1,50,590 crore in FY25 and exports supported by 1,762 authorisations, up 17% YoY. Ranked 4th globally in military strength, India targets ₹3,00,000 crore in defence output by FY29, backed by 52 satellites and a fast-growing startup ecosystem.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) is expected to consider and clear defence procurement proposals worth nearly ₹80,000 crore at its meeting today. Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the session may focus on emergency purchases of critical weapons and military equipment, fast-tracking new orders for the defence industry.
The DAC meeting is expected to focus on high-impact surveillance upgrades, including Embraer-based AEW&C platforms and the integration of the indigenous NETRA system.
With top military and defence leadership in attendance, approvals could accelerate modernisation efforts, strengthen airspace monitoring, and support India’s push toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing and advanced technologies.
Fast-Tracking Military Upgrades
The upcoming meeting marks the DAC’s fourth sitting in 2025, highlighting the government’s urgency in accelerating defence procurement. The last approval in October cleared Rs 79,000 crore of projects across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, spanning missiles, naval platforms, surveillance systems, and autonomous strike capabilities, signalling a broad-based push to modernise India’s armed forces.
Frequent DAC approvals in 2025 underline a strong push toward faster procurement and defence indigenisation. Clearances of ₹1.05 lakh crore in July and ₹54,000 crore in March span critical needs across the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The pace highlights rising urgency to boost readiness while anchoring growth in domestic defence manufacturing.
