A total of ten bank holidays are scheduled in April in various states and Union Territories across the country. The banks, along with the government offices, schools, and other institutions, will remain closed on account of regional and national holidays.

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar 2025, the banks will remain closed on April 1, 5, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, 29 and 30.

While the banks will remain closed in most of the states on April 1 due to Banks’ Closing of Accounts, the other holidays may vary as per the regional calendars.

Several festive days, such as Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Bohag Bihu, Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya will be observed in April.

April 1 (Tuesday): Banks will be closed for the yearly account finalization. It is also the day when the tribal festival of Sarhul will be celebrated in Jharkhand. However, banks will remain open in Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.

April 5 (Saturday): On the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birthday, banks will remain closed in Telangana.

April 10 (Thursday): Banks in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand will be closed for the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti.

April 14 (Monday): Banks will be closed in most places except Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh. This day marks Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, along with regional festivals such as Cheiraoba.

April 15 (Tuesday): This day marks the Bengali New Year, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu. Therefore, banks will be closed in Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.

Apr. 16 (Wednesday): Banks will be closed in Assam on the occasion of Bohag Bihu.

April 18 (Friday):  On the occasion of Good Friday, banks will be closed in most states and union territories except Tripura, Punjab, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.

April 21 (Monday): A Bank holiday will be observed in Tripura on the occasion of Garia Puja.

April 29 (Tuesday): To celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, banks will remain closed in Himachal Pradesh. 

April 30 (Wednesday): Banks will be closed in Karnataka to mark the birthday of Basavanna, the founder of the Lingayat sect, and Akshaya Tritiya.

Except for April 5, all the other holidays in April fall on weekdays. Both scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Banks also don’t operate on all Sundays.

The RBI releases the bank holiday calendar each year under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. It is important to note that you can continue to use facilities such as UPI, net banking and ATMs throughout the month, even during the holidays.
