Have you recently travelled on an Indian Railways train and had an unsatisfactory experience? You might be eligible for a refund, as per the revised rules of the Indian Railways. Passengers can now claim refunds for several issues during a train journey, like long delays, non-functional ACs, or diverted routes, among others.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) allows passengers to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) for several reasons.
Here is everything you need to know about filing TDR to claim refunds.
What is TDR?
Introduced by IRCTC, the TDR process allows customers to request a refund for their train journeys. If you missed your train or experienced delays, diversions, or coach changes, you can claim a refund by submitting a TDR via the IRCTC website or mobile app.
How To File A TDR
Step 1: Login to the IRCTC website at www.irctc.co.in, or the mobile app
Step 2: Navigate to “my account” and select the “my transactions” option.
Step 3: Choose the “File TDR” option and select the PNR for which TDR needs to be filed
Step 4: Select the reason from the drop-down TDR Reason list
Step 5: Choose the number of passengers and click on ‘File TDR’
Step 6: Read the instructions and click ‘Yes’ to confirm. Upon completion, a successful filing message will be displayed.

IRCTC allows passengers to obtain a refund by filing a TDR under multiple situations. Each reason for filing TDR has a time limit by which the request must be submitted.
