At least five people have lost their lives after falling from a fast local train in Mumbai. According to reports about 10 to 12 people fell off from a local train. It is likely that the fall happened due to overcrowding, but the reason is still unclear. All the injured have been rushed to the hospital. The incident happened at the Mumbra station in a train heading towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

“Some passengers travelling towards CSMT fell from the train at Thane’s Mumbra railway station. The reason for the accident is believed to be excessive crowd in the train. The railway administration and police have reached the spot. The injured are being taken immediately to the nearest hospital. Investigation into the accident has begun. Local services have also been affected by the incident”, stated Central Railways.

The passengers were believed to be hanging on the doors while travelling. The railway administration was alerted about the incident early in the morning, soon after it took place, and currently, both the police and railway authorities are present on site, investigating the cause of the accident.

Although, it lies on the outskirts of Mumbai, Mumbra station is considered to be one of the busiest and overcrowded stations.

This is a developing story and will be updated shortly.
