RailTel Corporation of India has secured a fresh government contract. The Jharkhand Education Project Council has awarded the state-run telecom company a work order to set up English language labs across the state.
The deal is worth ₹29.69 crore, including taxes. RailTel received the work order on March 30, 2026. On the stock market, shares of RailTel closed at ₹245.95 on NSE on monday, close to their 52-week low of ₹245. The stock has fallen sharply from its 52-week high of ₹478.95, reflecting broader pressure on the counter.
What the Order Covers
RailTel will select an agency to run English language training programmes. It will also set up English language labs as part of the project. The contract is entirely domestic in nature. The company must complete the work by April 6, 2029. There is no related-party interest involved in this deal.
Who Is RailTel?
RailTel is a Navratna public sector company under the Ministry of Railways. It owns one of India’s largest telecom networks. The company runs over 63,000 route km of optical fiber cable along railway tracks. Furthermore, its network passes through nearly 5,000 to 6,000 railway stations. It reaches up to 70% of India’s population.
The company went public in 2021 and trades on both NSE and BSE. Its market capitalisation stands at around ₹7,893 crore. Shri Sanjai Kumar serves as its Chairman and Managing Director.
Strong Financial Track Record
RailTel posted strong numbers in FY25. Its operating revenue rose about 35% year-on-year to ₹3,478 crore. Net profit climbed to ₹300 crore from ₹246 crore up 22%. The company carries almost no debt. It also pays healthy dividends with a yield of around 1.16%.
Beyond Telecom: A Broader Role
RailTel is not just a telecom provider. It actively supports government projects like BharatNet and the National Knowledge Network. The company also works on railway safety systems, including the KAVACH signalling project. Additionally, it manages video surveillance across thousands of stations.
This new education-sector order shows RailTel expanding into new domains. The company continues to win work across government departments at both state and central levels. As a result, its order book stays active across multiple sectors.
