Elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the country’s richest civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), are set to be held this week with voters set to elect new civic representatives, who will later choose the mayors.

The State Election Commission has officially released the schedule, detailing polling hours and result dates. Voting will take place in a single phase.

According to PTI, 1,03,44,315 people are eligible to vote in the BMC elections. Of these, 55,16,707 are male, 48,26,509 are female, and 1,099 voters fall under the ‘Other’ category.

Elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), are scheduled for Jan. 15. The results are expected to be announced the following day, Jan. 16.

Polling will be conducted from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at all designated voting centres.

BMC Elections 2026: How To Find Name In Voter List

Voters can verify their names on the Maharashtra State Election Commission’s official website. Visit mahasecvoterlist.in and search using either your full name or your EPIC number.

BMC Elections 2026: List Of Documents Required

Voters must carry their Voter ID card to the assigned polling station. In addition, carry the Voter Information Slip issued by the civic body. If you do not have the slip, it will be made available at the polling station on the day of voting.

Voters can present any one of the following valid identity documents:

  • Aadhaar card

  • MNREGA job card

  • Bank passbook with photograph

  • Driving licence

  • Service identity card issued to state or central government employees

  • PAN card

  • Passport

  • Pension document with photograph

  • Smart card issued under the National Population Register (NPR) by the Registrar General of India

  • Health insurance smart card issued by the Ministry of Labour

  • Official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs, or MLCs

BMC Elections 2026: Parties And Their Line-Up

Even as Mahayuti allies, the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, have joined forces for the BMC elections, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) has aligned with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) under Raj Thackeray, framing the partnership around the protection of Marathi language and culture.

The Congress, meanwhile, is contesting the BMC polls in alliance with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. The Nationalist Congress Party has opted to fight the elections on its own, breaking from the Mahayuti arrangement at the state level.
