In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Trump confirmed that Venezuela will not hold elections within the next 30 days, citing conditions on the ground as making voting unrealistic. “We have to fix the country first,” Trump said. “You can’t have an election if people can’t even vote.”
Trump added that Washington’s priority is restoring basic order and rebuilding the economy. “We have to nurse the country back to health,” he said, signaling that the transition process will take time.

“We do not have US armed forces in Venezuela, and we are not occupying that country,” House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana told reporters following the classified session with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and other senior officials.
“If anyone wants to use the term ‘nation-building’ or anything like that, it doesn’t resemble anything seen under President Trump,” added Representative Brian Mast, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
