The shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals are in focus after sources tell that the company is in the frontrunner to lead the tendering process for 72,300 electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations.
With a market capitalization of Rs 88,984 crores, the shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd are currently trading at Rs 256 per share, down by 23.67 percent from its 52-week high of Rs 335.40 per share. Over the past five years, the stock has delivered an impressive return of 687.37 percent.
About the news
According to sources, BHEL is expected to be nominated as the nodal agency to tender 72,300 EV public charging stations under the Rs 10,900-crore PM E-Drive scheme, which is operational from October 2024 to March 2026.
As a nodal agency, BHEL will do demand aggregation and price discovery. About Rs 2,000 crores of the scheme will support EV charging infrastructure, including 22,100 chargers for four-wheelers, 48,400 for two- and three-wheelers, and 1,800 for buses and trucks. The minimum before electric charger capacities are from 12 kW to 240 kW.
As part of the PM E-drive program, funding of up to 80% of the initial installation cost of EV charging stations will be covered by the government, and in certain cases,0 up to 100%, subject to the PM E-drive program guidelines .As of March 2025, the company has an outstanding order book of Rs 1,96,328 crore, of which it has recorded an order inflow of Rs 92,535 crore in FY25 itself.

Financial Highlights
The company reported a revenue of Rs 28,339 crore in FY25, up by 18.60 percent from its FY24 revenue of Rs 23,893 crore. Coming to its profitability, the company reported a net profit increase of 89.36 percent to Rs 534 crore in FY25 from Rs 282 crore in FY24.
The stock delivered an ROE and ROCE of 2.17 percent and 4.46 percent respectively, and is currently trading at a P/E of 166.68x as compared to its industry average of 55.68x.

BEL also caters to civilian sectors in e-governance, solar, telecom, and security. BEL provides electronic manufacturing services, software services, and cybersecurity services. BEL manufactures EV charging stations and exports to countries including the United States, France, and Israel.
