SYNOPSIS: The company’s Board approved a Rs. 1,500 crore greenfield rail manufacturing project in Madhya Pradesh, to be executed over five years, and aimed at enhancing manufacturing capacity and growth.
During Monday’s trading session, shares of a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, serving three verticalls Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction and Rail & Metro, surged nearly 7 percent on BSE, after the company’s Board approved Rs. 1,500 crores capex for the ‘BRAHMA’ rail unit in Madhya Pradesh.
With a market cap of Rs. 14,399 crores, shares of BEML Limited were trading in the green at Rs. 1,728.8 on BSE, up by around 7 percent, as against its previous closing price of Rs. 1,615.5. The stock has delivered positive returns of around 12 percent in one year, but has fallen by over 3 percent in the last one month.

According to its latest regulatory disclosure, the Board of BEML Limited has approved an estimated investment of around Rs. 1,500 crores to set up a greenfield rail manufacturing facility, BRAHMA, at Umariya, near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The project will be funded through long-term debt and is planned to be executed in a phased manner over a five-year period. This strategic investment is aimed at strengthening manufacturing capabilities and expanding capacity to support long-term growth in the rail equipment segment.

BEML reported a significant growth in its revenue from operations, showing a year-on-year increase of around 24 percent from Rs. 876 crores in Q3 FY25 to Rs. 1,083 crores in Q3 FY26. In contrast, the company reported a net loss of Rs. 22 crores from a profit of Rs. 24 crores over the same period.
As of H1 FY26, the company achieved highest ever order book of Rs. 16,342 crore, representing a rise of around 43 percent YoY from Rs. 11,453 crores recorded in H1 FY25.
BEML Limited is a Schedule-A public sector enterprise and is under the administrative control of the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, and operates through three distinct business verticals comprising Defence and Aerospace, Mining and Construction, and Rail and Metro.
The company manufactures and supplies defence ground support equipment such as Tatra-based high mobility trucks, aircraft towing tractors, etc. Under the Mining and Construction business, the company manufactures and supplies equipment like bulldozers, excavators, dumpers, shovels, loaders and motor graders to various user segments and under the Rail and Metro business, manufactures and supplies rail coaches, metro cars, ACEMUs, OHE cars, steel and aluminium wagons to the rail and metro sector.
